RICHMOND, BC, CANADA (January 14, 2016) — Ambatovy has just selected Wenco to provide its fleet management system (FMS) at one of the largest lateritic nickel mines in the world.
Located on the East Coast of Madagascar, Ambatovy produces upwards of 60,000 tonnes of nickel and 5,600 tonnes of cobalt each year. With this level of production occurring for its lifespan of 29 years, the mine needed a fleet management solution to improve control of its ore qualities. The Wencomine FMS will enhance the site's tracking of material over its 116 equipment units, maintaining specific ore qualities at the crusher while also keeping steady tonnage in reserve stockpiles.
Ambatovy also favoured Wenco thanks to its fuel efficiency system with Fuel Dispatch. Fuel is a major cost centre at any mine, but especially so at Ambatovy. The improved fuel security and equipment uptime gained through the Wenco system sets to make a strong contribution to operations.
The site has planned for the future as well. The Wencomine system at Ambatovy will run on Wenco's top-level onboard computer, the Trax-5. These terminals allow the mine to add other applications in the future, supporting technological convergence and reducing the need for more computers on their equipment units.
"It's great to be in business with a progressive company like Ambatovy," says Stefan Ströh, regional manager of Wenco Africa. "We're always happy to work with a forward-thinking company that wants to apply technology to improve efficiencies in a tough market."
The Wencomine FMS and its fuel efficiency system is set to deploy in early 2016. For more information about Wenco and its fuel management tools, read this white paper.
